If you have to ask, then yes you are Beta.
However, there's nothing wrong with that. The difference imho is being alpha is doing what makes you happy and being beta is doing what makes others happy above your own wants.

Life's too short to not enjoy yourself. During your time in college study hard but experiment and find what pleasures you.
Confidence is what makes an alpha male. Do what Pheroman said earlier the worst that can happen is you get a no and maybe a slap at most. Then it's "Oh well... time to move onto the next chick" Through the course of success and failures is where true confidence is build.
Also another big one is learning to love yourself. If you can't find ways to like yourself it will be hard to persuade women to.
If you don't like something fix/change it.
There are only those that Do and those that Do not in life. Take your pick what kind you want to be.

The email subscription gave me homework and advice. Cold approach five women, asking them for help with something. Be it finding a new coffee shop, etc etc. Then I'm supposed to email back in two days and let him know how it went. I'd be surprised to get an individualized response. I meant to say Day Bang. I've spent 4 hours reading his posts today.
