I've been using and deeply enjoying The Fragrance Shop's renditions of Havana and Tobacco Vanille. These smell just like the real deal!

The copies from Hayward and Common Scents smell pale and thin in comparison. Even though they do smell generally pretty nice (if you can smell them), they aren't really replicas. For example, both of these companies' Tobacco Vanille smell like tobacco and vanilla, but neither of them contain any hint of the powerful cinammon spice that opens up this fragrance. TFS nails it. In this case, it's worth getting the TFS copy since the original costs like $300. In the case of Havana, which retails around $55, it's trickier. The added longevity may just make it worthwhile.

I tried Camden Grey. Their chocolate and cucumber-melon were almost passable, though the effect of cucumber-melon on others tended towards negative and I tested people's reactions a fair bit. The other scents I ordered from them (almond, pecan pie, pumpkin pie, smooth roast, strawberry delight) all had a slight chemically/artificial note which mostly but not completely disappeared on skin. Maybe more dilution was required or I need more experience at turning oils into perfumes.... I could see these scents working well enough if used for scented soap or potpourri but I may need something higher quality for cologne.

I'm trying to see if I can find a cheaper substitute for which has become far and away my favorite scent, and is the second scent out of the several dozen I've tried that my wife likes. It's an obscure gourmand scent. Forums say it is similar to and slightly inferior to which is, apparently, another obscure gourmand scent.



I've ordered a large sample of Jeaux de Peau to see how it fares, but the various imitators (fragrance shop, The common scent, etc.) Don't seem to be interested in either.

i would like to reopen this conversation. i really like the scents at the fragrance shop, BUT their prices are way too high. i can't imagine that there are that many real suppliers out there. my assumption is there are only a few and lots of re sellers. has anyone found a really reliable (good quality scents) wholesaler versus a retailer like the fragrance shop? thanks.

Anyone know how well oil based mones will project with fragrant oils? I love oils as well but feel diffusion won't be that great since both are thick.
