WARNING - Post of the Month Nominations
01-06-2012 8:06 AM

The intent and purpose of the Nomination badges and posts of the month awards are to highlight and give credit to those posts that truly stand out among others, for one reason or another.

They are not intended to be used like "Thanks" or Reps, otherwise every other post in the forum would be showing Nominated badges and they would mean nothing!

We want those badges to be truly special and orders above the reputations or thanks that some of you so freely give out, and others chase after as if they were the Holy Grail of pheromones.

Looking at the few posts that have been nominated thus far, we're already starting to see abuse. Somehow "Glad you're back babe" and a cartoon video do NOT seem just quite deserving enough to be nominated to the Post of the Month awards.

If we continue to see posts nominated that clearly shouldn't have been, or members using the nominations as if they were "Thanks", we will do away with the Post of the Month awards and any corresponding contests after the January winners are announced.

Now if this post is always on top(stickied? In the most recent posts list), it can be very beneficial because the moment it disappears, it will be abused the same way it is happening at AD.

My .02 euro's

Edit: also mark there is no button to undo a nomination? I was testing on a post and it worked(curiosity), so I was one of the guilties Big Grin

There currently isn't a way to undo a nomination, but that isn't a bad idea at all, and definitely something to look in to adding.

But, it'll probably have to wait till the forum generates a little more revenue in affiliate commissions, because with the cost of the plugin and the $100 we're giving out in the January contest, that pots empty for right now. Big Grin

Thanks for the great suggestion though!

Great idea Smile ...

we want this thing to be working good and just ... at least there's money involved ..

Guy's and Gal's ... you can win a very huge price ... so such a nomination is something to do wisely ;)

OK, we have now added the ability for members to remove nominations for posts they nominated if they just felt the need to click on the badge to see what it did, accidentally nominated, or later changed their minds.

We've also deleted the nominations for the 2 posts cited above which should never have been nominated in the first place. Please note that even though the 2 posts may look like they were reiprocal nominations, they were not. Both nominations were made by a new member who has a single post under their belt.

Yes, we know who you are and what you did, we see, hear and know everything! And, Luigi the enforcer is headed to your house right now to punish you! Eek Big Grin

Nope, no nomination in the database. I think the thread cache just needs to run before it actually clears out.

Actually there was a glitch in which the Nominated badges were not removed if a nomination was removed and there were no other nominations for that post, and it has now been corrected. Big Grin
