Vintage perfums

Hi guys and gals,

This was part of my post to some other thread, but I thought it would benefit more people on it own thread so I edited it out and posted in here.

"I can still smell the oh so intoxicating, fire like, gasoline scent ending with something wich reminds me burned woods, in the original Fahrenheit from the late 80´s, to which the current reformulation (after several reformulations between) is a far cry of."

and the question part of the post:
"oh, btw from where do(?) you guys hunt vintage perfums...? ebay? Etsy? Where else..?"

So...please post here the sources you go to when you want to hunt that original special juice that has been discontinued or reformulated (often "watered down") since you smelled it for the very first time...that oh so wonderful scent that still lingers in your mind after all those years, sometimes decades...
Thanks

eBay and Etsy have always been the best sources for me.

Thank you Ekscentra. Another question regarding to this...what are the best sources to educate oneself when it comes to "fair" prices, authenticity etc. about these product? I quess you develop kind of sense about it over time...and by comparing to previous deals, if there has been for the one you are after, you can get some questimates etc...but let´s say an item that has never been sold in either of those sites comes to market, or it has been sold a decade ago (and now it´s even more rare), what are the ways to evaluate it? I know the basic/general rules of supply and demand when it comes to price etc. (I am long time entrepreuner), but was wondering if there is anything spesific to this niche that I would better to be aware of...if there are as much counterfeits as in, say art such as paintings, and how to spot them etc.

And when it comes to this topic, what are the questions I should be asking, but haven´t done or don´t have the awareness/knowledge yet to ask? Obvious ones aside, like "What is the value of this spesific perfume/formulation/signed batch/whatever to YOU?"

To contribute something to this from my part...so far I have found this (keep in mind that I have just recently started to dive into this topic...I post again when I find more something that might be valuable)
(has a nice visual quide for Fahrenheit (among others), one of my fav. designer original formulations; )

Basenotes is the resource I use most often. Counterfeits are rare except in those fragrances which has been extremely commercially successful. The bottles and the barcode tend to be the best indicators of determining counterfeits, confirming the date of bottling, etc.
