Very interesting! I'll attempt to find the full text (if there is a full text and it wasn't just published in abstract form).

Mechanism of action? Part of it could involve the scent triggering a massive dopamine surge - but there's probably more than that.

One thing puts me off this research is based on Hawaii about a Hawaiian mushroom so might be a dud. Anybody living in Hawaii?

Just read a bit about it on wiki, says the trial involved 16 women (6 achieved spontaneous orgasms) and 20 men (all found the smell disgusting). It's an incredibly small test group, I'm curious as to why it was so small.

If you've ever been involved with research - a sample of 36 is not exactly unusual when testing novel natural compounds. I've seen plenty of diet/supplement studies with a sample of that size, or less! Obviously, the more the better, but 36 isn't unusually low.

Big studies are rarer and often occur once big pharma finds something that synthesize itself, patent, then make a lot of money from. Some natural compounds do manage to get subject to big studies, but most don't.

I messaged Garry about this over 18 months ago. He's been doing research on it ever since, attempting to contact the original researcher, etc. So far, nothing has come up. Last I contacted him (2 months ago by my estimate), he intended to get in contact with someone in Hawaii who may know about it. We'll see what comes of it.

Sources exist for spores of the Chinese variety of Dictyophora indusiata, but it's said that this version is useless or next-to-useless as an aphrodisiac, the Hawaiian variety being what's needed.

What's interesting is these mushrooms only grow on the lava flows. Hard to find!
