Could take out power grids in 2012.

Unlikely.

We're just coming out of an unusually long solar minimum. It's an 11 year cycle so maximum activity would be expected in about 5 1/2 years.

There's work being done on hardening the grids since Canada lost a good chunk of thiers in '89.
