I have a sample of watson somewhere and do not like it. To me it smells like a library.

This sounds like just the type of scent I'd enjoy. Old, dusty leather, perhaps?

A nice and inexpensive fragrance that has a mediterranian barbershop vibe is "Agua Fresca" by Adolfo Dominguez.
Very soapy/berbershoy in the beginning with a nice evolution towards one of the best pine-notes I now and an old-school clean musk drydown.
Petitgrain is another prominent note in the middle along with estragon.
Fresh and spicy, and, and that is it's biggest advantage, a very natural-smelling scent. It's obviosly not a purely natural blend but it smells that way. Manufactured by Puig, a soanish firm known for high-quality/natural smelling perfumes.

I obviously love Agua Fresca and wear a few days every year when I feel like escaping into a fictive rural spanish countryside. Check it out.

I think that 4711 Original Eau de Cologne -Maurer & Wirtz is a good choice:

Actually, Neroli Portofino -Tom Ford smells like 4711 Original Eau de Cologne -Maurer & Wirtz:

Pino Silvestre Original Pino Silvestre could be another choice:

One of my favorites: Jovan Musk for Men -Jovan

Barber Cologne Elixir Green -C.O.Bigelow:

Another 'fresh' perfume that I love is Sportissimo -Galimard, but the longevity is poor..:

Neroli Portofino smells exactly like the cheap aloe vera gels you'd find in department stores to my nose. I don't get any barbershop associations there, personally, nor have I heard of anyone else who has, but it's often compared to Mugler Cologne, which itself is constantly compared to Original Vetiver, one of my favorite modern barbershop scents. There seems to be at least a vague association with barbershops there, even if I can't detect it.

I agree completely. Portofino is overpriced crap, and Mugler cologne is wishywashy water.

@Panikos I don't know if available outside of Germany, but if you get the chance try "4711 Portugal".
What a great juice for the price. Very simple but well-crafted blend of orange, citron and delictate woods - not the bergamot colonish vibe of 4711 but a refined, elegant, gentle barbershop/after-shave/cologne variation. Also by Mäurer and Wirtz of course.
Puts any of the Tom Ford colognes in it's place easily.

Yes, however now that I think about it, I may be confused with Elementary 4 scent

since I have both Watson and Elementary and I don't have them with me to confirm which is which. But one of them is definitely what you described E.

Obvious addition to this category. I love spanish fragrances. This one is pure craftmanship and excellence in simplcity.

Creed Original Vetiver is one of my favorite scents.
And its also a great cover for even strong mones like nnpa, SSFM or NA.

Also an awesome scent is Dad For Men no longer made from LPMP.
Doesnt cover the stronger mones as good as original vetiver but lasts a lot longer and actually get better after s couple hrs.

These are my 2 fav daytime/social scents.

You may be better off wearing nutella, maybe some chick might want to lick it off
