Lightbulb Polyphasic sleep?
02-02-2015 6:54 PM

Some links for those who don't know:

In a nutshell, it's a departure from the traditional single 6-9 hour block of sleep (monophasic) in favor of multiple shorter sleep increments, known as a polyphasic sleep schedule.

Has anybody tried this/Thoughts on this? I've known about it for years and wanted to try it but I've never had a permitting schedule.

Is this pertaining to life hacks. I read an article a while ago that was pretty much saying you could take certain supplements and as long as you have a balanced diet you can live and function at exceptional rate with 4 hours of sleep per night?

@Hagaroo: Like you said, most people's schedules do not permit it. The initial shock to the system must be MAHOOSIVE! Shok

Back in the good ol' days of yore around ancient times during the medieval era Blum people would go to bed early, sleep for about 2-3 hours, wake up and do some knitting, reading, have sex, etc. for about 2-3 hours, then go back to sleep for another 3-4 hours.

Here's what I do. Hit the bed by 11PM, wake up at 3-4AM, work/surf the net/etc., brekkie at 8AM and back to sleep from 8.30/9-10.30/11AM.

Doubt I can do with only 2-4 hours of sleep per day. I'd crash bigtime (has happened before.)

I've read the shock is 1 week. After that the brain adjusts to the new schedule.

They've done studies you know...60% of the time, it works every time

@SS: The idea predates lifehacks. It sounds like the article's pretty accurate though.

Mhm, you're in total zombie mode for the first week or so (some sources say a month), but after that it's smooth sailing. I've read that after adjusting people will fall asleep crazy fast and have vivid or even lucid REM dreams all within the span of their 20-30 minute nap Eek Not sure if I would ever try something as drastic as the Uberman or Dymaxion schedule but I'd opt for something in the middle that would give me 4-6 hours of sleep, perhaps a segmented schedule like Kimosabe's.
