I think you are making a brilliant move. 40,000 years ago man ate a lot of fruit and leafy greens. I'd say eat a lot of that. All this processed food is killing more people than cigarettes does. I am excited to hear about your experiences Big Grin

Never tried it. In principal it sounds good, the whole "diet we evolved to eat" thing. I know that a friend of mine tried it, and lost considerable amounts of muscle mass. Probably not as big a concern for you as a woman, but it was enough to steer me away from the Paleo Diet. Muscle mass is hard to gain and easy to lose. It might be good though.

I am not following paleo specifically, but I am on a cyclic ketogenic diet right now, which is similar but follows a 65/30/5 fat/protein/carb ratio.

I have been in ketosis on and off for 3 months, and at first it was hard to give up the carbs. Not just because I like eating carbs, but also because its quite common to go out with friends and not find anything palatable on the menu. Needless to say, I eat a lot of steak when I go out.

Avacados, almonds, and sausages wrapped in bacon are lifesavers for me.

Paleo is good, but a keto diet is far superior.

I've done them both, for quite awhile, I've gotta say if you really want to do Paleo you probably wont be disappointed, but I'd suggest you look into Keto first.

My Wife does Paleo off and on. Seems like a pain personally to track so much. I just try not too eat carbs from breads or anything too processed. Works for me = )

What I have been doing lately is just sticking with meat that comes from animals with 2 legs and fish. So basically chicken, turkey and a lot of wild caught fish. I still eat beef, but only once in a while.

It works great ,I do it whenever I have enough discipline to stay out of the chocolate chip cookies Smile

Check out marksdailyapple.com from Mark Sisson , one of the main authorities. You might have his book already .

Cheers Smile

Paleo vs Keto

IME both diets have advantages and disadvantages and is dependent on many variables concerning lifestyle, genetics, and what the individual is looking for concerning results. I do not feel one or the other is superior as they both can be a healthy lifestyle if planned correctly.

In my opinion the paleo is a better long term option and by far healthier. I could see a paleo diet being long term, while keto should be cycled. Paleo does not produce the dramatic results of keto. I tried both of them and from personal experience could not function properly on keto. I also noticed a dramatic drop in energy on both diets. I was cut up like a razor on either diet but I was a sloth in everyday life.

The main drawback to keto, for me, is that it was very easy to dehydrate in the gym or on runs regardless of how much fluid I consumed. I began to get headaches from the lack of water and I noticed a huge impact on my sports performance. I was never hungry and began to watch my muscles go into a catabolic state from lack of calories and hydration. Ketones are very very hard on your kidneys and combined with the ammonia produced during intense workout sessions it was becoming counterproductive. I had to stop the diet.

I stopped paleo not bc of adverse effects but only bc I could not adhere to the strict food item list. I did notice after an initial digestive realignment on paleo that I was more regular, felt less nauseous, and was able to stay more hydrated than I did on keto. Both diets sapped my energy levels and I had to stop them. Currently I am on the "see food" diet and it is working absolute non-wonders for me. haha

Both diets have alot of potential, but it is extremely important to plan them carefully to prevent nutritional deficiencies and other physiological problems.

One tip I can give on both diets is that a large amount (~10 g) of Lglutamine should be added. It will help scavenge excess ammonia.
