Can oxytocin even work as a pheromone?I remember Chris saying that he is certain it can't work.You can't get it diffused in the air with any carrier, it's a heavy molecule.

Is someone willing to apply some Liquid Trust or standalone oxytocin under their nostrils, get drunk and test the claim?

Personally, I think it would work as a pheromone. Makes me wish I still had access to pure Oxytocin for testing. I remember being able to smell it, so I'm fairly sure it carries. Heavy molecule or not, even sand can go airborn sometimes.

Anyone know a good source? This stuff needs to be kept cold or it degrades pretty quickly.

Basically it's like this... A lot of hormones and similar molecules break down over time for a lot of reasons. Epinephrine aka Adrenaline, won't last even a year unless refrigeratated. To test this out we picked a volunteer and injected him with some that hadn't been refrigerated for over a year. We then monitored his heart rate. There was no spike what-so-ever that we could measure. The Epi was fully denatured.

So I'm not really talking about if the 'mone mixer says the Oxytocin needs refrigeration or not. I know this specific molecule does. I've seen how much strength it loses from not being stored properly.

Oxytocin is a human pheromone. It is one of the big ones that had clinical data and testing with medical/scientific papers written on it long before the internet forums were in swing. Careful around pregnant women tho- may cause contractions just by smelling it, not to mention that pregnant women seem to have a heightened sense of smell. Don't ask me how I know, but washing it off makes the contractions stop.

We know from charts Wiserd found that Oxytocin lasts between 6 months to 3 years, depending on pH of the mixture and temperature of storage. Places that use it frequently often store it refrigerated.

Personally I think the rumors that smelling Oxytocin can induce labor are BS. Every time a women has sex, she produces some. Same with hugs and fondling of nipples. If pregnant sex isn't a huge abortion risk, then a few heavy molecules in the air shouldn't be insanely stronger. Oxytocin is why sex is so hormonely bonding.

Paramedics using it to control postpartum bleeding use from .3 to 1ml injected Intramuscular, or they put 1 to 2ml into a 1000ml of saline and give by IV. When doctors use it to actually induce, they put 30ml into 500ml of saline via IV. Dairy farmers routinely handle Oxytocin daily, and this includes their wives. I've never heard of a single pregnant farmer having issues with handling it. I can also say the smell of it doesn't cause cows to release milk, but intramuscular injection worked within a minute or two. All these uses certainly don't point towards it being particularly dangerous.

Liquid Alchemy and True Pheromones sell it as a single. TP offers it in alcohol, dpg and powder form. I imagine powdered could be the most stable form? Could be wrong..

any chemists here w/ applicable insights?

My wife is a labor and delivery nurse for the past decade. They definitely use oxytocin in the hospital to induce labor. And for patients who want to go into labor they do suggest sex for the expectant mother, as a labor inducing activity, also walking laps around the maternity ward (walking has not oxytocin involved, just gravity). The correlation between oxytocin and sex and labor is there.

As for smelling oxytocin, I have witnessed it first hand, and the contractions were real. It wasn't labor, and it wasn't time to deliver. It was very very early, and the contractions were very real, coming on suddenly, and intense (or so I'm told).

A few weeks ago I posted on oxytocin as a therapy drug for couples therapy. Smelling oxytocin made for much nicer arguing. Another link to work done by Flores with the H-P-A Axis (Hypothalumus-Pituitary-Adrenal sp?) was that Oxytocin in a pill form was essentially the drug Extacy (MDMA). But the repercussions of using extacy as a relationship bond building therapy had repurcussions due to the side effects of the drug.

I will try to dig up the scientific papers on oxytocin as a pheromone.
