Civet is one of the most interesting and definitely the most capricious animalic. It will change its scent profile depending upon the material in which it is diluted, and age will increase the range of notes. Dilution matters too with 10% being overwhelmingly skatoles (think tiger's cage when it is being cleaned) and <1% a filthy and unrepentant jasmine scented tart.

The animalics are pretty temperamental beasts, much harder to get right than synthetic pheromones. Get them wrong and you will repulse most people you come into contact with.

This may be a silly question. And my apologies if it is. But am curious.

When natural animalistic pheromones r abstracted from animals, r those animals suffering? Or r they still living? Thanks.
