I am new and I want to be able to read some members' journals. How can I do that? Do I have a post requirement or is it time based?

It's a little of both. Newer members are, at first, restricted from creating new threads in certain areas to avoid re-creating established topic threads or peppering the forum with the the same questions that have been asked myriad times before.

After a certain amount of time and a certain number of positively contributing posts, new members can create topics in most areas. After a slightly higher threshold of time and posts has been met they can then access the journals , as well as to create their own if they so desire.

The thresholds are very low.
