How can Grinches turn off the Xmas music?
12-20-2009 8:49 AM

I like to keep several browser tabs open as I surf the web.  As long as I have pherotalk open I have Christmas music.  Not really my choice of what to listen to.

I muted my speaker but that disables audio for all programs.

Is there a way to just turn off this forum's audio?

Thanks,

Beats the hell out of me. I do the same thing and play podcasts while I am online so I never use sites that play audio automatically. Plus everytime I change the page it changes the song. I am sure Mark will fix it somehow. There is supposed to be a button under the holiday greeting you can turn it off with but I just see a black bar.

I just keep hitting pause every time I change pages.

Put your cursor at the farthest left end of the black bar, click and hold with the left mouse button a small volume control panel will appear move the cursor while keeping the left mouse button pressed to the volume control panel.

Then while continuing pressing the left button on the mouse move the mouse up (music high) or down (mute) the volume level will be indicated by the small shaded grey circle on the volume control panel scale. Hope this helps! Big Grin

By the way love the song, thank you, Mark for putting it in! Smile

Seems to be moot now as the music seems to have gone away. The problem was that in my system there was no obvious pause button. (Vista and IE 8) QuietGuy's solution looks like it might work, but I can't try it out as the little black bar went away along with the music.

edit - later - Black bar is back, and I can access volume controls per QuietGuy's procedure.  Still no music to see if I can turn it down, but by setting volume to lowest it should quiet things down.

Ok, I've changed the autoplay setting to false, so the music won't bother you grinches. P

So, now to hear the song people are going to have to click on the play button.

The reason that Tisha, QuietGuy and a few others may see a black bar instead of music player controls is that you're either on a Mac, or have installed the QuickTime plugin and it changed your default media player.

Unfortunately, there's no single player that will work in every computer configuration and every browser. I could use a flash player, but then nobody with a 64 bit operating system would see the player. As an mp3 those of you with QuickTime see an ugly black bar, etc.

The good news is that it's only gonna be therre through Christmas, then the music goes bye bye. Smile

Thanks Mark. That's much quieter.

And if Tiny Tim doesn't like it, well, are there no poorhouses with mp3 players?

Bwa ha ha ha ...

When I had my office in Nashville way back when, I was looking out my window one day and see Tiny Tim stumbling down the middle of Music Row, in what looked like a drunken stupor.

And, as I was watching him stumble by, the song Tip Toe Through The Tulips was playing in my head.  :D

He died a couple of years later of a Heart Attack.
