Quick question.

IS there a reason why mones are stored in glass containers?

and can they be stored in plastic containers?

My guess would be that they would remain more pure, they would not permeate the plastic/acquire any attributes from the plastic. I, by no means am a chemist of any sort, yet i would imagine that there definitely is a reason.

They're frequently stored in plastic togo bottles...

You would get a little leaching from the plastic. And the ethanol or propylene glycol could increase skin absorption a bit. *shrug* I don't know to what extent that would be an issue.

And glass is fancier (increases estimation of product value) and easier to clean and re-purpose.

Ya i was wondering if the mones affect the plastic or vise versa. ie. leaching, etc.

But i suppose glass does look nicer....

I wonder, maybe someone who knows more about it could chime in.

I also read somewhere that the pheromones had to be stored in blue or amber bottles to protect them from the sun? Idk how true this info is...Alpha Dream has clear bottles...and so are androtics togos...and they are also plastic, but are meant for quick use...so idk. I'd be interested to know if either is better than the other.

I've also heard this about the blue/amber bottles. Most likely the colored bottles block out the ultraviolet rays from the sun so it doesn't taint/alter the pheromones. (Like beer/wine bottles, perhaps?)

I tend to keep my bottles in the refrigerator, so they never see the light of day until I transfer them into a roll-on / pocket atomizer.

My favorite 2 companies (Alpha Dream and Love Potions) use clear bottles so I can't see that being true. Chris especially is an encyclopedia of phero knowledge. Surely he would know something like that. His singles are sold in blue bottles though.

Regarding sunlight, I couldn't find anything that spoke to pheromone degradation in particular, but I figure articles on the degredation of other steroids in the environment may be relevant as the basis for a good guess. The primary method for environmental degradation seems to be microbial action. However I did find this;

Quote:Jurgens et al.(2002) was able to find a half-life for the photolytic degradation ...from around 10 days (at 12 hours sunshine per day) which means that ... removal through photolysis could be significant at least at places where the sun is often shining.

The half-life for pheromones may be much shorter than this. But it probably isn't better than this. So put a clear bottle in full sun and at the very best, half of it will be gone in 10 days.

The question of the half-life of our Pheromones is very interesting. Many of us are stocked up for years, if not decades...

i know that i have a life long supply here

Chemicals can be stored in Plastic and Glass ... i think it won´t make much difference ..

maybe XPX ( Chemist ) will jump in and tell us more ..
