Curcumin (Tumeric) as Effective as Prozac for Mental Health
01-19-2016 8:44 PM

I have been taking Tumeric (Curcumin) with Black Pepper because of the benefits that it offers to diabetics.

My memory is sharper, my mood is fantastic, and my blood sugar is lower. I take it with breakfast and dinner.

Perhaps you can help someone with depression or another ailment.

I have read about this claim last month. There's a page on facebook that I have "liked". It's called Fitlife (by Drew Canole)

Thank you for reminding me about it.But please elaborate on the quantity you take. For example, if you take capsules, how much is the dosage and what's your serving? Also, with black pepper, I assume that's because apparently it boosts absorption, correct? Is it bioperine that you take?

Right now, I`m taking l-tyrosine in the morning and l-tryptophan at night. Even though they are amino acids, I actually wish I could back to my old emotional state without consuming anything...just like the old times. I find consuming turmeric to be "healthier" than tyro and trypto

Tumeric supreme extra strength by Gaia.

Black Pepper fruit is for better absorption. Two a day at meals. I have seen effects right away. 2 days.

I agree with you. I took Tumeric for blood sugar and then wondered why my memory was better and I felt so damn good.

Perhaps Tumeric can help others avoid going through that zombie state.

Prozac is one of the woprst things I can think for mental health, curcumin some of the best. I'm surprised it's only considered as effective as a mediocre prescription medication.

Curcumin is antastic. It's one of the few things I'm sure to be taking decades from now. Listing the number of things I use it for would be excessive. It's a great treatment for ADD and OCD, not to mention headaches and other forms of pain relief. It's a jack-of-all-trades supplement.

I avoided prescription drugs so I never took Prozac. I will definitely give curcumin a try. My ADD and poor short term memory are taking a big toll on me. My memory was very good few years back but now I have to write down everything to make sure I don't forget. Not to mention brain fog and lack of focus.
I'm tired of going back and forth everytime I want to leave the house because I keep realizing that I forgot something.

I used to take St john wort, I loved it. While it took 4 weeks for the effects to be noticeable (as they claim actually), it actually "cured" a chronic insomnia that I was having after only one week of usage. That alone was AMAZING. I literally had insomnia 6 times a week for months. I hated "bed time" because I knew I was going to stay in bed for hours. So when I started sleeping only few minutes after getting into bed, that alone helped my mood dramatically. I forgot why I stopped it but I believe it's because I eventually became too lazy to do anything. I had no drive to do anything. Few months later, by coincidence, I have read a book that said we need to balance our dopamine and serotonin levels. If serotonin is higher, we "lose" our sense of urgency and motivation. Too much dopamine and you will become more irritated.

Huh, well that's cool. While I take curcumin religiously (I switch up from Meriva to Longvida to Biocurcumin), it's never affected my mood greatly. The only thing that's helped me recently (I didn't even realize how down I had been until I got out of it) is Perika. It's a patented extract of St. John's Wort. In 2 weeks, I was feeling better. It's been a month now, and I feel great during winter. I hate winter, and I was thinking about how pretty the snow on the ground was the other day. What!?

I'm going to keep taking my curcumin, b/c the benefits are awesome - especially inflammation reduction. Perhaps I need to double the dose.

darklord what dose are you taking?
Love curcumin.

On another note, have you tried or read about berberine? It consists of a variety of herbs and is used for diabetes with great effect.

I've been using it for some time now and it works wonders for blood sugar lvls. It also has tons of added benefits, too many to list hear.

Two capsules a day...A friend recommended the brand. I've never looked at the amount....Just made sure that it had the black pepper fruit in it.

No, I have not heard of berberine, but I did look it up after your post. Sounds similar in the effects for diabetics...I read that Curcumin works like Metformin and apparently so does berberine.
