Copulins, testosterone, and behavior

Earlier today I read a comment about copulins and the lack of proof for their effect on behavior. This comment was made by an uninformed marketer who republished something from 1999. Since then, clearly the effects of copulins on testosterone levels in men, and the affect of the change in testosterone on behavior has been replicated. To bring others current on this topic, here are the citations with links to the full text of the articles.

Ovulation as a male mating prime: subtle signs of women's fertility influence men's mating cognition and behavior. Miller SL, Maner JK. J Pers Soc Psychol. 2011 Feb;100(2):295-308. Author's full text draft:

Excerpt: "The current studies thus demonstrate a consistent pattern whereby subtle fertility cues elicited a cascade of motivationally tinged responses"”from lower order cognition to overt behavior"” reflecting activation of men's mating goal."

For the link from ovulatory phase copulins to the testosterone increase see: Scent of a woman: men's testosterone responses to olfactory ovulation cues. Miller SL, Maner JK. Psychol Sci. 2010 Feb 1;21(2):276-83.Full text :

Excerpt: "Men exposed to the scent of a woman close to ovulation had higher testosterone levels than both men exposed to the scent of a non-ovulating woman and men exposed to a control scent."

The copulin formula used in the Scent of Eros product for women is the same one that was used by Astrid Jutte, who was the first to show that copulins increased testosterone in men. The formula has not changed because it was based on solid research findings. As always, at Pheromones.com, I take pride in offering the latest scientific information so that consumers can make their best product choices.
