You know you can form a locked group(won't show on profile to anyone but members of group, show to anyone else in feed or show on wall) on FaceBook that allows for chatting, the caveat being that you have to be friends w/ people to add them. The upside is that once a person is added to the group then everyone(in the group) can communicate with them (friends or not). I'm considering forming a locked PheroTruth group on F/B. If anyone' s interested, you can PM me.

A chatroom would be a nice expansion but i think the shoutbox can still squeeze a few more in
but we could still consider it though?

FB might reveal a bit too much info for some. i'm not sure if everyone wants that?

If you look in groups you can see that there's a locked group option. My plan was to allow y'all to friend me, add you 2 the group, then unfriend you (no offense), this way you could have group & not have to have everyone on your profile. I'm not really concerned about my personal info, because I don't put ANYTHING into cyberspace, that I would be afraid to share w/ people anyway.
ETA: sounds complicated, but I figured it was easier than trying program a whole new chat room.

Not sure what your using but cpanel generally have a chatroom function.
As for facebook, that doesnt appeal to me for the same reason this site does.

If Mark had something that was easy to install and run, I wouldn't be opposed. Although the thing I like about the shoutbox is how easy it is to go back and check what's happened while I slept

One thing to consider would be doing an IRC based chatroom. I understand most aren't IRC friendly, but can make that easy via free java based embedding.

If this idea is taken up, I wouldn't mind sharing what I know about registering IRC channels and setting up room moderators. Used to use it quite a bit a few years ago.

Several problems with adding a Chatroom to the forum:

1. None really integrate seamlessly with myBB software, even though several claim to.

2. Requiring a separate registration and login to access a Chatroom would proabably be a turn off to a lot of people.

3. Interactive discussions are kind of the purpose of forums, and I think adding a Chatroom would detract from user postings.
